Uru Uru Nails: A Kaleidoscopic Ice Dream
If youβve spent any time scrolling through the more luminous corners of the internet, youβll know that Jennie doesnβt just start trends; she creates aesthetic earthquakes.
Her recent mirror selfie featuring glowing, iridescent fingertips has sent the uru uru (a Japanese onomatopoeia for watery, tear-filled eyes), a.k.a. the ice nail trend, into a global frenzy. While glass nails have long been a staple of trend repertoires, this iteration feels entirely newβitβs the futuristic, high-shine upgrade we didnβt know we needed. It captures the ephemeral beauty of a polar aurora, making it the perfect choice for anyone wanting to carry a bit of shimmer on their fingertips.

To achieve this multidimensional depth, we curated a rainbow palette of jelly blues, greens, and pinks as the base. The real sorcery, however, lies in the placement of the foil. I will be honest: achieving a perfectly smooth finish with full-nail foil is a Herculean task that requires a thick gel foundation and immense patience. Instead, we opted for rectangular foil shards. While my perfectionist tendencies initially twinged at the unevenness, the resulting jagged refractions look far more dynamic in natural sunlight. To soften the edges and add a dreamy, blurred effect, we rubbed a layer of mermaid powder over the design. This extra step obscures the foil layers and creates that coveted jelly-like finish. The result evokes Sailor Moon-esque nostalgia, like a crystal transformation caught in a bottle.
If a full rainbow feels too bold, uru uru nails look divine in a monochromatic Frozen blue (their natural element) or a sunset-inspired gold-and-orange mix. It is a slightly temperamental process, but the editorial payoff is worth every second of manoeuvring.
