Prismatic Pride: A Spectrum of Velvet Light

A Becoming Carmen June manicure featuring a rainbow cat-eye nail design with holographic chrome powder.

As we stand on the precipice of summer, June arrives with a vibrant energy that feels like a collective exhale.

While Hong Kong might not drape itself in the same overt festivities as elsewhere, I’ve always believed that the values of Prideβ€”the freedom to love authentically and to celebrate our true selvesβ€”are universal. This manicure is my quiet, stylish tribute to that sentiment; a personal nod to the idea that love, in all its kaleidoscopic forms, is the most beautiful thing we can carry. It’s about more than a seasonal shift; it’s a wearable celebration of inclusivity and the brilliant spectrum of the human heart, captured in a way that feels both intentional and impeccably polished.

For a multidimensional look, I moved away from flat pigments and leaned (once again) into the sorcery of cat-eye gel polishes. I curated a palette of jewel-toned velvetsβ€”amethyst, emerald, sapphire, and sunset copperβ€”using a high-strength magnet to draw the metallic particles into a wide light effect for a uniform, velvet look. The trick to keeping this editorial rather than elementary is to add a fine holographic chrome powder, buffed over the top. It softens the transitions between the hues, creating a seamless prism that mimics the oil-slick beauty of a summer rain.

If you’re feeling more ethereal, try this technique over a milky white base for a "pearl-core" rainbow, or go moody with a black undercoat to make the neon shifts truly pop. It’s a high-impact, low-effort way to carry the spirit of the month right at your fingertips. Because life is far too short for monochrome, and darling, so are you.
