I have long harboured a quiet protest against purple, but even a sceptic must admit there is something irresistibly "main character" about the shade when October rolls around.
As the air turns crisp and the nights draw in, my usual neutrals simply won't do. This season, I’m trading my minimalist palette for something that feels more like a sophisticated spell than a costume. It is a nod to the gothic allure of the spooky season—mystical, a touch moody, and perfectly poised for those who prefer their Halloween spirit served with a side of celestial elegance.
To achieve this depth, we alternated between two distinct textures. The first features a saturated, fine-milled purple cat-eye, a velvety backdrop for hand-painted bat silhouettes and shimmery silver stars. For the accent nails, layering a coarse, sheer cat-eye over a solid black base creates a multidimensional "galaxy" effect that catches every flicker of candlelight. We finished these with irregular silver chrome ringer frames to echo the metallic hardware of a classic biker jacket. If you’re recreating this at home, use a high-strength magnet to pull the pigment towards the centre for that signature velvet sheen.
And if purple still feels like a stretch, this design translates beautifully into a deep forest green for a "wicked woods" vibe or a midnight navy for a more literal celestial take. Either way, ensure your top coat is ultra-glossy; a dull finish is the only real nightmare we want to avoid this Halloween.
