Sakura Season: A Love Letter to Spring Blooms

There is a singular, fleeting magic in the Japanese tradition of hanami—the quiet appreciation of cherry blossoms as they transform the landscape into a soft, ethereal haze.

It is that breath-taking moment when the wind catches a branch and sends a flurry of petals raining down like botanical snow that inspired this month’s manicure. As we transition away from the heavy textures of winter, I wanted to capture that sense of renewal and delicate movement on my fingertips, leaning into the soft pastel trends that define the season’s sartorial shift.

The base of this design is a whisper-light cat-eye polish in alternating shades of pale sage green and blossom pink, with a micro-fine shimmer rather than chunky glitter, to ensure the finish remains sophisticated rather than theatrical. To mimic the depth of a garden in bloom, we sandwiched translucent flower-petal confetti between layers of polish, adding an iridescent dimension that catches the light beautifully. I chose pale pink petals to contrast with the green base and crisp white for the pink nails, ensuring each flower truly pops.

For a balanced look, alternate between flower-shaped arrangements and a more sporadic placement. If your nail beds are on the smaller side, refrain from forcing a full bloom onto every finger; a few strategically placed petals often look more intentional and elegant as accents. While I’ve stayed true to the traditional sakura palette, these confetti pieces are easily sourced online in endless hues—a lavender base with silver petals would be an equally chic alternative for those wanting to veer away from the classic pink.
