Checked In: The Silveri Hong Kong – MGallery Collection

There is a strange sort of magic in checking into a hotel where you can step off a train, wander through a luxury outlet mall, and find yourself looking out at rolling green peaks, all within ten minutes.

That is the premise of The Silveri Hong Kong, Accor’s first MGallery property, tucked away in the bustling transit hub of Tung Chung. It positions itself as a design-forward sanctuary for slow travellers and weekend escapists who want a breath of Lantau air without pitching a tent. But running a boutique hotel right on top of a major transport node and a sprawling shopping complex is a delicate balancing act. After spending a couple of days testing out their headline jacuzzi suite, I have thoughts. Quite a few of them, actually.

Arrival and First Impressions

Finding the entrance requires a bit of local insider knowledge. It is tucked discreetly behind the glittering facades of Citygate Outlets, so you arrive via the mall’s polished corridors unless you are checking in late at night, when you have to loop through the basement concierge. Once you step inside, the aesthetic shifts dramatically. Muted earthy tones, smooth stone, and lacquered emerald surfaces take over, paying direct homage to the dense foliage waiting just beyond the glass.

The design narrative leans heavily on bringing the outdoors in, though the location's reality occasionally interrupts the illusion. You get sweeping vistas of Lantau’s dramatic topography, juxtaposed against the familiar, looming silhouettes of Tung Chung’s high-density residential blocks. Service-wise, the reception area can experience quite a bit of gridlock during peak hours. If you end up waiting for your keys, my advice is to grab a seat, lean into the greenery, and let the city noise fade for a minute.

Guestrooms and the Jacuzzi Suite Experiment

The property has 206 rooms and leans into layout configurations you rarely see in Hong Kong, including rooms with private outdoor terraces and plunge pools. We opted for the terrace suite, drawn entirely by the promise of a private outdoor jacuzzi.

Let's address the elephant on the terrace. Wrangling the heavy protective tarp off the tub requires an unexpected amount of upper-body strength, and the operating instructions provided were brief enough to feel like a riddle left by a mischievous architect. Figuring out the jet and temperature controls took considerable trial and error; I certainly hadn't mastered them by the time we checked out. Furthermore, because our room occupied a corner wedge, the terrace felt slightly sandwiched by neighbouring balconies. While tall potted plants try their best to keep the peace, privacy is relative out there, and a stray glance across the partition is entirely possible if your neighbours happen to be pacing outside.

All logistical grievances aside, sinking into hot water on a chilly afternoon while looking out at the hills is hard to beat. Inside, the styling is crisp and functional. You get Malin+Goetz bath amenities, Nespresso machines, and those coveted Dyson hair dryers that make drying your hair after a dip entirely painless. Small architectural quirks do linger—the guest room doors are heavy enough to double as vault entrances, and a few more hooks for wet robes inside the bathroom would have saved us a lot of soggy towel shuffling.

Dining at The Enclave

The Enclave serves as the property's culinary anchor, hidden behind a mysteriously lit corridor that feels like an infinity room designed to disorient your depth perception before dinner. The menu is structured with theatrical flair, divided into an overture, aria, harmony, and finale.

Having dialled back on heavy red meats, I found myself far more captivated by the opening acts. The yellowtail kingfish ceviche, paired with a crisp radish and fennel salad and a punchy black garlic aioli, was easily the meal's highlight. The porcini and green olive tortellini also held its own against the heavier mains.

By morning, the restaurant pivots to breakfast duty, and it genuinely stands out as one of the better morning spreads in the local hotel scene. It strikes that rare, civilised sweet spot: enough custom variety to keep things interesting—yes, the omelettes are made to order—without descending into the chaotic, wasteful excess of a massive commercial buffet.

Wellness and Lounges

For those with executive privileges, the fifteenth-floor lounge offers a quiet perch with direct views of the airport and hotel grounds, serving afternoon refreshments and evening cocktails. On the ground floor, the outdoor pool operates from March to November, flanked by a 24-hour gym. Given how much time we spent wrestling with our terrace jacuzzi and exploring the nearby shops, we didn't shed any tears over the seasonal pool closure.

The Verdict

The Silveri is an ambitious property trying to stitch together two entirely different worlds: the frantic energy of a major transit and retail hub and the slow, contemplative pace of the Lantau countryside. It has a few teething issues to sort out (some structural, some operational), but it carves out a compelling niche for anyone looking to stage a quick weekend retreat without leaving the territory. It might not be a flawless escape, but with a bit of patience and a good playlist on the terrace, it gets remarkably close.
